Why Organic Tallow Matters

Why Organic Tallow Matters

It’s actually really simple, and even really important. Mammals store toxins in fat. Organic tallow is the only solution.

When a mammal is unable to excrete a toxin (perspiration, urine, respiration…) a body tucks the toxin into fat. Protecting the body as best it can.

The body needs somewhere to put the environmental pollutants and chemical compounds it encounters. This is why the source and quality of tallow is paramount when making tallow balm.

Tallow is fat from cows, and yes, they also store toxins in fat! Purchasing certified organic tallow helps ensure you are getting tallow from animals raised with minimal (or no) exposure to toxins. The way nature intended.

Conventional-grain fed cattle have been shown to bio accumulate PC-B's, dioxins, residues of pesticides, synthetic hormones and/or antibiotics in their fat! Gross! No one wants to rub that on their skin.

And then there are the Omegas, which are in tallow.

The optimal ratio for cows and the human body of Omega 3 and Omega 6 should be 1:1. Modern diets make this hard. When ratios get out of balance they have been linked to chronic inflammation and disease risk. Feeding cows corn changes their Omega ratios to an average of 18:1! You have to know your tallow brand is grass-fed and finished. But how will you guarantee that? Most tallow makers don’t even raise cows, they just buy the fat.

I know every other tallow brand claims to get their tallow from the “great regenerative farm down the road”. As an organic farmer for 28 years, I can talk to a farmer for about five minutes and find out what they are doing that is not up to organic standards. Even if they use all the buzzwords like “regenerative, grass-fed, Biodynamic, sustainable or permaculture”.

If you want to avoid rubbing more toxins into your skin, look for the USDA Organic seal on your tallow balm.

Not just the word “organic”-the word has no meaning in skincare and is abused. It must be stamped with the USDA Organic seal you see on food to guarantee it! If you really want to do some digging you may be able to find a maker you trust. I couldn’t. I decided to make, certify and provide tallow balm to the most discerning customers.

Trying to evade toxins in everyday life is challenging enough. Putting tallow on your skin that contains toxins from another being is just next level heartbreaking. It all comes down to the quality of life a cow lived.

Our cows only eat certified organic grass. Our pastures are irrigated with snow melt from the Teton Mountains. We use organic straw for bedding. The list goes on and on as to why our tallow is the highest quality you can find.

If it sounds pristine and dreamy, it’s because it is. I’ve been farming like this for about 3 decades. Way before social media made it sound romantic. I don’t compromise on quality. We only make products that feel good, work and are free of all questionable ingredients. One of our farm principles is “Always All Organic”.

Why waste time or wonder with products marketing unsubstantiated claims? We have a third party to make sure we are telling you the truth. You deserve transparency and the best quality. Life is to short to compromise on yourself.

At Cosmic Tallow we are happy to answer any of your questions about our process. From the soil to the jar. We are there and every step of the way.
