FAQ’s

What is tallow?

Tallow is a nutrient-rich, natural fat from cattle. Ours is gently rendered and purified for skincare. Its composition closely matches our skin’s own oils, allowing it to deeply moisturize and nourish without clogging pores. Naturally rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, tallow supports softness, elasticity, and a healthy, radiant complexion.

How it's made

Cosmic Tallow is crafted with care at every step, using only the highest-quality, certified organic ingredients. Our tallow is gently dry rendered at low temperatures in stainless steel to preserve its natural integrity. We avoid plastic throughout the process, relying instead on traditional tools and materials wherever possible.

Once rendered, the tallow is carefully strained through certified organic cotton muslin into stainless steel bowls. After cooling, we blend in nourishing oils and essential oils, creating a smooth, balanced formula. Finally, each batch is piped into glass jars—ready to be used and enjoyed.

The quality of our suet

We begin with certified organic, 100% grass-fed and finished suet sourced from our own land at Cosmic Apple Gardens.

For us, everything starts with the soil. Through organic and Biodynamic farming practices, we focus on building nutrient-rich, living soil by giving back more than we take. That soil grows deeply nourishing grasses, which in turn support the health of our certified organic cows.

The result is exceptionally nutrient-dense suet. We carefully render this into tallow, creating a balm that reflects the integrity of our land, our animals, and the way we choose to farm.

How is tallow balm used?

Our tallow balms can be used head to toe. As a daily moisturizer or on specific spots looking for a bit of extra love. It melts into the skin to provide deep, lasting hydration, restore softness, and support a healthy, radiant complexion.

Why are vitamins A, D, K & E so important?

Together, vitamins A, D, E, and K nourish, protect, and renew the skin—helping it stay hydrated, supple, and luminous.

Tallow is naturally rich in these vitamins, which is one reason it’s such an effective, skin-compatible moisturizer for all skin types.

Vitamin A — Renewal & Smoothness
  • Role: Encourages healthy cell turnover and collagen production.
  • Benefits: Helps refine texture, even tone, and maintain firmness.

Vitamin D — Barrier Support & Healing

  • Role: Supports the skin’s immune system and barrier function.
  • Benefits: Helps calm irritation, strengthen the skin’s natural defense, and promote repair from environmental stress.
  • Tallow connection: Naturally contains small amounts of vitamin D, which can help soothe and fortify dry or compromised skin.

Vitamin E — Protection & Moisture

  • Role: Acts as a powerful antioxidant.
  • Benefits: Protects against free radical damage from sun and pollution, softens skin, and helps maintain elasticity.
  • Synergy: Works beautifully with vitamins A and D to enhance their stability and effectiveness.

Vitamin K — Tone & Repair

  • Role: Supports healthy blood flow and aids in tissue repair.
  • Benefits: Helps reduce the appearance of redness, blotchiness, and uneven tone while promoting overall skin resilience.
How does organic tallow benefit the skin?

Tallow is known for its calming and moisturizing properties. It helps repair dry, damaged skin, reduces redness, and locks in hydration for a healthy, glowing complexion.

Is organic tallow good for sensitive skin?

Yes! Organic tallow is gentle on sensitive skin and has been shown to help soothe irritation and inflammation, making it ideal for those with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or acne. Although...we request you sample a small bit on a patch of skin to make sure it is compatible with your unique and beautiful skin.

What is the difference between Balm and Cream?

Confession time. There is no difference! When first was making the Calendula Rose blend I was unable to get the whipped consistency of the Whipped Lavender Tallow Balm. I decided to call it something different and ordered my labels. About 2 batches in, I had an a-ha moment, adjusted the technique and now BOTH of our Tallow blends share the same light, whipped consistency our customers love. Now I can't wait for the new labels!
